Research at BIC
With the highest resolution positron emission tomograph and the availability of cyclotron and radiochemistry production facility on site, the UCI Brain Imaging Center is uniquely positioned to leverage its resources to produce high quality research. The Center has both federally sponsored grants and funded collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry.
The tools
BIC's High Resolution Research Tomograph (HRRT) offers the highest resolution PET images available (-2mm isotropic resolution).
Complete Radio pharmaceutical Placidity managed in collaboration with Pet Net Pharmaceutical Inc. allows for the regular availability of clinical grade radio-ligands.
Collaborations
- Biomedical Informatics Research Network(BIRN): Two 5 year, NIH funded projects to develop multi-site structural & fMRI techniques suitable for clinical trials
- Transdisciplinary Imaging Genetics Center: An NIH funded center dedicated to the emerging field of Imaging Genetics, combining an individual's genetic background, brain imaging and treatment response.
- National Alliance for Medical Image Computing (NA-MIC): Driving Biological Project, Core 3. The computational tools and open systems technologies and platforms developed by
NA-MIC will initially be used to study anatomical structures and connectivity
patterns in the brain, derangements of which have long been thought to play a
role in the etiology of schizophrenia.
- Industry Imaging Collaborations: Allergan Aventis, BMS, Forest, Novartis, Organon, Pfizer, and Praecis.
